Rare 1859 Seated Quarter, Proof Format
1859 25C PR 65 PCGS. Federal records indicate that 800 proof Seated quarters were delivered in 1859, but we doubt whether all of these coins were distributed before the end of the year. Those that were not were melted, and this issue is a well known rarity in all grades. Originally toned in sea-green and copper shades, both sides of this coin are pleasingly reflective. The strike is full, and the surfaces are nearly hairline-free.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23WL, PCGS# 5555, GSID# 5285)
