Description

1860 Quarter, PR68 Cameo
Sole Finest Graded

1860 25C PR68 Cameo NGC. Two different proof obverse dies have the same basic characteristic of stars that "are rather weak and show faint or irregular centrils" according to Larry Briggs. That characteristic is clearly seen on this Superb Gem Cameo proof. Otherwise, all details on both sides are boldly defined. This incredible specimen exhibits full mint brilliance with no evidence of toning, aside from a faint gold cast limited to the borders. The fields are deeply mirrored and the devices highly lustrous, presenting incredible eye appeal. This piece is the only PR68 example of the date at NGC or PCGS, regardless of designation. Census: 1 in 68 Cameo, 0 finer (6/13).
Ex: Slotkin Family Trust Collection / Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2011), lot 5091, which realized $25,300.
