Description

    1861 Seated Quarter, PR67 ★
    Among the Finest Certified

1861 25C PR67 ★ NGC. Briggs 7-E. Like many of the proof Seated quarters in this remarkable set, the interior regions remain partly brilliant, encompassed by magnificent rings of iridescent golden-orange, rose, and cobalt-blue. NGC has awarded a Star designation for eye appeal, and rightfully so.

Variety: Briggs 7-E. A small die line above star 8 is diagnostic of proofs.

Population Data (9/15): There are two submissions in PR67 at NGC, but this is the only one with a Star designation. Four Premium Gem proofs are the finest submissions at PCGS.

Heritage Commentary: Only the Eric P. Newman PR68 Cameo example is rated higher than this Superb Gem, and that coin recently brought an impressive sum of $129,250 during the sale of the Eugene H. Gardner Collection, Part III (Heritage, 5/2015). This is an excellent opportunity to obtain an impeccable representative that gives the Newman coin a serious run for its money. From a net mintage of 400 proofs.

    Provenance: Purchased from Larry Whitlow (9/2008).(Registry values: P4) (NGC ID# 23WN, PCGS# 5557)

    Weight: 6.22 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
