    Description

    1862 Seated Quarter, PR67 Cameo
    None Graded Finer

1862 25C PR67 Cameo NGC. This is a Superb Gem proof example of the No Motto design with fully brilliant obverse and reverse surfaces. Only about 430 proofs were actually sold in 1862; the balance of the 550-coin mintage was melted. The 550-coin figure continues to be reported in the Guide Book, but we tend to subscribe to Breen's figures in regard to these coins. When we last offered this piece in 2004, we stated that four had been certified with none finer. Just three additional examples have been similarly graded at NGC since then. This is an extremely important opportunity to acquire a rare Proof quarter dollar from the Civil War era. Census: 7 in 67 Cameo, 0 finer (3/11).
