Description

1863 Quarter, Toned PR66
Rarely Offered This Fine

1863 25C PR66 NGC. Briggs Reverse D. The obverse die is unlisted in Briggs for this proof marriage, which shows the date slightly further left than on the documented 4-D proof dies. Only 460 proof quarters were struck in 1863. This Premium Gem survivor is needle-sharp across all design elements and has tremendous reflectivity in the fields. The obverse displays mottled champagne-gray and light olive toning, while the reverse has additional blue and violet hues. Considerable cameo contrast is apparent on the reverse. Census: 12 in 66 (1 in 66+), 2 finer (1/19).(Registry values: P3)
