    Description

    Gem Proof 1864 Seated Quarter
    Toned With Excellent Contrast

1864 25C PR65 PCGS. This Civil War-era Gem proof Seated quarter of 1864, certified in a PCGS green-label holder, would undoubtedly have received a Cameo or (possibly) Deep Cameo designation if it had been certified at a later date. Intense field-device contrast is present, despite the moderate patina on each side -- golden-pink dominating the obverse fields, pastel jade, pink, and aqua on the reverse. A few faint hairlines preclude an even finer grade, but the eye appeal is great. A rare Seated quarter from the proof issue of 470 coins. Population: 11 in 65, 4 finer (5/11).(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 23WS, PCGS# 5560)
