Description

1865 Quarter, Nicely Toned PR65
Final Year of the No Motto Type

1865 25C PR65 NGC. Only 500 proofs were struck in 1865, a paltry addition to the 58,800 strikes for circulation. Few were preserved in high grade, and this is one of only 18 near-Gem proofs certified by NGC (8/13). Light rose toning is seen over each side with a rim of deeper blue at the margins. The mirrored fields still flash brightly, unimpeded by the presence of the toning. A small planchet flaw is noted in the right obverse field.
