Description

    1867 Quarter, PR64 ★ Cameo
    Spectacular Multicolor Patina

1867 25C PR64 ★ Cameo NGC. CAC. Briggs 2-B. Aside from the brilliant central reverse, this Star-designated PR64 Cameo 1867 quarter with CAC approval offers dramatic contrast and spectacular multicolor toning throughout. Shades include ice-blue, mint-green, magenta, and amber-gold, progressing in a concentric fashion from the margins toward the interiors. Lightly marked with uninhibited aesthetic appeal.

Variety: Briggs 2-B. The right edge of the 1 is positioned under the seventh vertical shield line.

Population Data (9/15): NGC reports 15 examples in PR64 Cameo, this the only one with a Star designation. PCGS shows nine PR64 Cameo representatives. Finer submissions include 16 at NGC and 14 at PCGS.

Heritage Commentary: Collectors assembling complete date sets often forgo high-grade circulation strikes from this and other contemporary Philadelphia issues, as their small mintages and even smaller Mint State survival rates result in prohibitively high prices. Proofs such as this, from a mintage of 625 pieces, are attractive alternatives. They can be found in excellent condition with splendid toning and razor-sharp detail, as seen here.

    Provenance: Purchased from Larry Whitlow (9/2008).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 23WY, PCGS# 85566)

    Weight: 6.22 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
