    625 Proofs Minted

1867 25C PR64 PCGS. CAC. Briggs 2-B. Golden-lilac centers progress to darker purple, blue, and olive shades on the obverse with areas of brilliance in the fields. The central reverse is nearly untoned, while the outer regions exhibit coloration reminiscent of the the obverse. The design elements are predictably razor-sharp, and each side is moderately contrasted with deep mirrors and minimal contact marks.

Variety: Briggs 2-B. The date slopes slightly upward, and the Q in QUAR. is recut.

Population Data (9/15): This is one of 47 PR64 submissions at PCGS with 30 finer.

Heritage Commentary: The Mint struck 625 proof quarters in 1867 to supplement a low production of 20,000 business strikes. The proofs are significantly more available than their circulation-strike counterparts in XF or better, making this Choice example an ideal alternative for collectors looking to assemble a high-end date set.
