Description
Premium Gem Proof 1867 Quarter Dollar
1867 25C PR66 PCGS. This is a Premium Gem Proof with extraordinary eye appeal. Both sides have deeply mirrored fields and considerable cameo contrast, although not designated as a Cameo Proof. The toning tends to mask the nature of the contrast, thus preventing an otherwise justified designation. The surfaces on each side have lovely lilac, amber, and sea-green toning. This is an unquestionable Proof example although there are many business strikes with prooflike fields that closely resemble proofs. In fact, some of the latter were found in 1867 proof sets.(#5566) (Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23WY, PCGS# 5566, GSID# 5309)
