Description

    Sharp 1868 Gem Proof Quarter

1868 25C PR65 PCGS. The Mint's low output of only 29,400 business strike quarters in 1868 has placed intense collector pressure on the surviving proof specimens, of which 600 were originally made. A little over 300 proof examples have been certified by PCGS and NGC combined. Fewer than 20 Gem proofs have been graded, and only about ten coins higher. This piece displays medium intensity cobalt-blue and gold color over both sides, and is joined by touches of lavender on the reverse. Some reflectivity still manages to peek through the toning. The design elements are sharply brought up, and the surfaces are devoid of significant abrasions. Population: 8 in 65, 2 finer (3/06).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 23WZ, PCGS# 5567)

    Weight: 6.22 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
