Description

1868 25C PR 63 Cleaned SEGS. Briggs 2-B. With prominent triple punching on the 1 in the date and a sizeable die lump attached to the ribbon below the B in LIBERTY, it is understandable why Larry Briggs chose this particular specimen as a plate coin in his Comprehensive Encyclopedia of United States Liberty Seated Quarters. Although richly impressed throughout, numerous hairlines limit the overall eye appeal and call into question the originality of the deep jungle-green, russet-gold, and cobalt-blue toning that envelops both the obverse and the reverse.
