    Description

1869 25C PR64 PCGS. Like the other P-mint Motto Seated quarters from the 1860s, the 1869 was produced in limited numbers as a business strike, in this case only 16,000 pieces. As a result, collectors of high quality dates are often forced to call upon exceptionally well preserved proofs to represent this issue. The reverse is especially choice on this near-Gem example, with iridescent blue peripheral toning and copper centers. The obverse periphery is iridescent blue as well, but the centers are smoky-gray. A pleasingly struck piece, although perusal with a loupe reveals roller marks on Liberty's breast and light field hairlines. Population: 34 in 64, 12 finer (12/05).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 23X2, PCGS# 5568)
