Description

1872 25C PR68 NGC. The reverse has a raised die line, over 1 mm. in length, crossing the left shield border, and identifying this as a proof die, used also on proofs from 1873 through 1880.
An amazing proof with mostly brilliant silvery-white centers, framed by russet, violet, and deep blue toning closer to the borders. Considerable contrast is evident on both sides, giving the appearance that the central devices are floating above the surface, although NGC did not designate this piece as a cameo proof. This is the finest example that NGC has certified.
