Description

Silver-White 1873 Arrows Quarter, PR65 Cameo

1873 25C Arrows PR65 Cameo PCGS. In the 1850s it was an abundance of California gold that made silver overvalued in relation, while in the 1870s the Comstock Lode's abundance of Nevada silver made gold overvalued. The Mint actually took the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone, increasing the weight of minor silver coins (from 6.22 to 6.25 gm for a quarter) and putting them at a standard metric weight. Arrows at the date signified the changes. This silver-white Gem Cameo 1873 Arrows Seated quarter shows little evidence of other color, but the field-device contrast is intense and the strike is impeccable. Only 540 proofs were made of this first-year type. Population: 3 in 65 Cameo, 1 finer (8/10).(Registry values: P3)
