    Description

Superb Toned Proof 1873 Arrows Quarter

1873 Arrows PR 66 NGC. The Mint Act of 1873 converted subsidiary coinage to the metric system, and in so doing slightly increased the weight of silver planchets. The arrows were a distinguishing mark to easily identify these coins from the old tenor silver pieces. Only 540 pieces were struck in the proof format, making this a very scarce and desirable type coin (and the scarcer of the two years available). The fields are deeply reflective and the obverse possesses a warm russet and cobalt-blue edging around that side with a lustrous central device of Liberty. The reverse, on the other hand, displays an even steel-blue patina with no variation in color. Population: 6 in 66, none are finer (8/98). (NGC ID# 23XR, PCGS# 5574)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
