    Description

1873 No Arrows Quarter, PR66 Cameo
    Three Pieces Finer at NGC

1873 25C No Arrows PR66 Cameo NGC. CAC. Briggs 1-A. Gold, blue, and rose-violet hues intermingle over the obverse with largely untoned centers. The reverse is almost all-brilliant aside from a band of colors similar to those seen on the obverse along the upper right border. Thickly frosted motifs contrast decidedly against watery, near-flawless fields, providing this Premium Gem Cameo proof with eye-catching visual appeal. Two small parallel hairlines occur diagonally over Liberty's chest.

Variety: Closed 3 in the date, as on all 1873 No Arrows proof quarters. Briggs 1-A, the only proof dies for the issue. Reverse struck from the 1872 proof die.

Population Data (9/15): This is one of four PR66 Cameo submissions at NGC (one in PR66 Cameo) with four finer. PCGS reports three in PR66 Cameo and four finer.

Heritage Commentary: With a mintage of 600 proofs, the 1873 No Arrows issue is fairly available in most grades without a Cameo designation and only becomes rare at the Gem grade level. However, all representatives with affirmed Cameo contrast are rarities, regardless of condition.

Provenance: Lawrence H. Gardner Collection from the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society (Stack's, 3/2005), lot 384.(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 23X6, PCGS# 85572)

    Weight: 6.22 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
