Description

Wonderfully Toned 1874 Quarter with Arrows, PR 67

1874 Arrows PR 67 NGC. When the mint converted to the metric system in 1873, there was a slight increase in the weight of the half dimes, dimes, quarters, and half dollars, and this was signified by the placement of arrowheads on either side of the date. This design change only lasted two years, giving collectors a second opportunity to acquire Arrows coinage in a twenty-year period. High grade, proof quarters With Arrows are very elusive and highly in demand as type coins. This specimen exhibits unfathomably deep mirrors in the fields. The obverse is deeply toned in reddish-russet hues, the reverse is covered with rich cobalt-blue patina and just a touch of deep purple and crimson toward the centers of the design. A superb, gem proof quarter representing this rare variety. Population: 2 in PR 67, none finer (8/98).
