Description

Gem Cameo Proof 1875 Seated Liberty Quarter

1875 25C PR65 Cameo NGC. Type II Reverse. An interesting research piece from the new hub with TATE clearly separated. This is known as the Type II reverse in Seated Liberty Quarter parlance. In his reference on the subject, Larry Briggs noted that two obverse and two reverse dies were combined in parallel marriages to create two different Proof varieties, both from the Type I reverse hub, with TATE virtually touching. The obverse appears to be Briggs obverse die 4 but in a later state with little recutting of the 7 or 5, while the reverse is similar to his reverse die E, except that it is a Type II reverse. A lovely Gem Cameo Proof with mostly brilliant silver-white surfaces accented by peripheral gold, lilac, green, and iridescent toning, mostly on the obverse. The fields have a few faint hairlines, but these are mostly hidden beneath the toning. A scarce Proof issue in an uncommon grade. Population: 6 in 65, 1 finer (8/05).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 23X7, PCGS# 85576)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
