    Description

    1875 Quarter, PR67 ★ Cameo
Among the Rarest With Motto Proof Issues
    Remarkable Eye Appeal

1875 25C PR67 ★ Cameo NGC. Briggs 5-F. This Superb Gem proof displays absolutely remarkable visual and technical quality. The centers maintain their brilliance, surrounded by a medley of violet, ice-blue, and golden-orange toning. Bold contrast and near-flawless preservation characterize the surfaces. The Star designation could scarcely be more appropriate.

Variety: Briggs 5-F. All stars are sharply struck with full centers. The date is positioned high. The 1872 Reverse C proof die was used once again in 1875, though the diagnostic die cut is only faintly visible through the left shield border.

Population Data (9/15): NGC reports two submissions in PR67 Cameo (one in PR67 Cameo, one in PR67+ Cameo) with a single PR68 ★ finer. The finest Cameo submissions at PCGS are two in PR66.

Heritage Commentary: In 1991, Larry Briggs wrote in his Complete Guide to Liberty Seated Quarters: "Proofs were struck with two different obverses and two different reverses! Auction sales over the last decade show the 1875 proof quarter to be the rarest proof quarter of either the 1870's or 1880's proof quarters! Possibly the mintage [630 to 700 pieces] being incorrect or many proofs of this year being melted. Regardless quite elusive and underrated." The 1875 remains one of the rarest With Motto proof issues.

    Provenance: Purchased from Haymor (4/2009).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 23X7, PCGS# 85576)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
