Description

Beautiful 1880 Briggs 1-B Seated Quarter, PR67 Cameo NGC

1880 25C PR67 Cameo NGC. Briggs 1-B. This coin was struck from Reverse C of the proof 1872 Seated Quarter, and it is readily identifiable by a die lump (as produced) on the left border of the reverse shield. While this die was used to strike proof Quarters in several different years, 1880 is the first and only year in which it was also employed in the delivery of business strikes (Briggs 1-A). The present Superb Gem is free of both toning and grade-limiting blemishes. The cameo contrast is simply breathtaking, and the strike is needle sharp over all features. A tiny strike through (as struck, and one will need a loupe to see it) in the reverse field at the lower right side of the first S in STATES is mentioned solely for pedigree purposes. Population: 3 in 67 Cameo, 2 finer (7/02). (NGC ID# 23XC, PCGS# 85581)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
