Description

    1884 Quarter, PR66+
    Beautiful Toning, Ex: Gardner

1884 25C PR66+ PCGS. CAC. Briggs 2-B. A paltry total of 8,875 quarters was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1884, with the final three digits of that number representing the proof output. The proof issue begins to pose a challenge in Premium Gem condition, and collectors will have difficulty locating a higher-graded example. This is a perfect type candidate. This carefully preserved, moderately toned high-end Premium Gem proof displays wonderfully original surfaces, both sides sporting a coating of multicolored iridescence that is noticeably deeper on the reverse. Shades include violet, russet, and silver-gray on the obverse and purple, blue, and rose on the other side. Population: 28 in 66 (1 in 66+), 9 finer. CAC: 10 in 66, 4 finer (5/16).
    Ex: Denver Signature (Heritage, 8/2006), lot 1186; Eugene H. Gardner Collection, Part IV (Heritage, 10/2015), lot 98542 (as PR67 NGC).(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 3TWH, PCGS# 5585)

    Weight: 6.25 grams
