Awe-Inspiring 1884 Seated Liberty Quarter in PR69 Cameo1884 25C PR69 Cameo NGC. Ex: P. Kaufman. Briggs 2-B. The Motto, No Arrows Seated Quarter was produced from 1866-1873, and again from 1875-1891. Only five proofs of this type have received a PR69 designation from NGC and PCGS (10/02). We can hardly overstate the importance of this 1884-dated specimen for superb quality type purposes. There is illimitable depth of reflectivity in the fields--a feature that is all the more impressive because the bright, flashy surfaces are devoid of toning. The fields on both sides form a splendid backdrop to the fully struck and richly frosted devices. The surfaces retain their blemish-free sheen even under close scrutiny with a loupe. Truly a wonder coin that would form the centerpiece of any collection.
The 1884 Seated Quarter was produced to the extent of just 8,875 pieces. Survivors of the 875-piece proof delivery display evidence of light die rust (as struck) on the obverse portrait. In addition, the reverse die was extensively polished during preparation with the result that the eagle's tail feathers are missing.
