Description

1890 Quarter, Brilliant PR68+ Cameo
Frosty Devices, Watery Mirrors

1890 25C PR68+ Cameo NGC. Both the circulation strike mintage (80,000 pieces) and the proof production (590 proofs) are low for the 1890 quarters, making the circulation strikes scarce to rare. Proofs are somewhat more available despite fewer pieces than normal struck, including a few exceptionally high-grade Cameo examples. This Plus-graded Superb Gem is tied for the second-finest Cameo proof behind a single PR69 Cameo coin. Brilliant, watery-deep mirrors surround snow-white frosted devices for eye-stopping contrast. Although some proofs show die crumbling at the reverse legend including at the A's and S's, none of that is seen on this needle-sharp example and the surfaces appear essentially flawless. The eye appeal is terrific. NGC Census: 8 in 68 Cameo (2 in 68+), 1 finer (10/25).(Registry values: P1)
