    Description

    1891 Quarter, Vividly Toned PR67
    Early NGC Holder

1891 25C PR67 NGC. CAC. Briggs 1-A. Arguably among the most eye-catching quarters in the Gardner Collection, this Superb Gem proof boasts electric-blue centers that cede to jade-green, yellow, and rose-violet. The effect is especially vivid on the reverse. Reflective fields, razor-sharp motifs, and nearly blemish-free surfaces are unsurprising given the lofty grade. Housed in an NGC "no line fatty" holder with a green CAC approval sticker.

Variety: Briggs 1-A. The reverse die, left over from the previous year, shows crumbling within all A's in the legend. Several stars are lightly recut.

Population Data (9/15): NGC reports 14 submitted in PR67 and four finer. PCGS enumerates four in PR67, surpassed by a single PR68.

Heritage Commentary: Off the market for nearly 16 years and still in its original NGC holder with an added "green bean" sticker, this is a top-quality Superb Gem with the eye appeal to match its outstanding technical grade. From a mintage of 600 proofs.

    Provenance: Sotheby's (11/1999), lot 24.(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 23XP, PCGS# 5592)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
