Description

1902 1C Cent PR 68 Red NGC. Absolutely perfect, this specimen sets the benchmark to which all Indian Head cents must aspire. Highly lustrous and vivid throughout, the obverse exhibits light orange patina about the periphery that frames the yellow-gold center. Substantially darker, though hardly less attractive, the reverse combines shades of pumpkin-orange, cherry-red, and electric-pink. The strike elicits every detail that flowed from Longacre's imagination when he executed this hardy design in the late 1850s. Free of abrasions, this is one coin that an ultimate collection of Indian Heads cannot do without. Although PCGS reports 2 examples in PR 68, this is the single finest specimen graded by NGC (6/99).
