Description

1883 Nine-Piece Proof Set

1883 Proof Set. More coins are included from this pivotal year than any other, with 1883 being the final year of three-cent nickel and Trade dollar production (at least of any sufficient quantity) and a transitional year for five-cent pieces. The inventory reads like this:
Indian Cent PR 64 Red and Brown PCGS. Delicate violet overtones on the obverse, along with blushes of deeper rose on the wreath.
Three-Cent Nickel PR 62 PCGS. Bright, faintly hairlined surfaces.
Shield Nickel PR 65 PCGS. A splendid, golden-hued example kept from superb status by some trivial reverse flyspecks.
No Cents Liberty Nickel PR 60 PCGS. A dullish steel-gray example.
With Cents Liberty Nickel PR 62 PCGS. Streaky rose-gold overtones with sky-blue peripheral color on the reverse.
Seated Liberty Dime PR 62 PCGS. Soft violet toning clings to the devices, in addition to flashes of peripheral blue.
Seated Liberty Quarter PR 61 PCGS. Hairlined and mostly brilliant.
Seated Liberty Half-Dollar PR 60 PCGS. Cloudy two-toned surfaces.
Trade Dollar PR 62 PCGS. Essentially brilliant and nicely cameoed, sporting far better eye appeal than one might visualize from the grade.
Morgan Dollar PR 63 PCGS. A high-end cameo that, despite a few wispy hairlines, is most attractive for the grade.
