1896 Six-Piece Proof Set
1896 Proof Set. As is characteristic of many of these sets, the eye appeal of many of the pieces exceeds the assigned grade. When it comes to proof coinage, a few hairlines do not necessarily produce a less-attractive coin, just a lower grade one. This set includes:Indian Cent PR 64 Red and Brown PCGS. Mellowed golden-brown with bright orange coloration about the margins.
Liberty Nickel PR 64 PCGS. Intermittent sky-blue and golden-violet patina over near-gem surfaces.
Barber Dime PR 60 PCGS. A white, hairlined cameo.
Barber Quarter PR 62 PCGS. Deep, watery reflectivity, partially framed, on the obverse, in russet toning.
Barber Half-Dollar PR 62 PCGS. Mostly brilliant with pleasing contrast and wispy obverse hairlines.
Morgan Dollar PR 63 PCGS. Hazy gray-golden patina limits the visibility of underlying slidemarks and hairlines, but does not hide the strong field-to-device contrast.
