Description

Significant PR65 Cameo 1866 Rays Nickel

1866 5C Rays PR65 Cameo PCGS. Struck in the initial year of nickel coinage and a low mintage two-year proof type coin with an official (but apparently under-reported) mintage of only 125 proofs. This is a boldly struck coin with nicely mirrored fields and the diagnostic center dot on the reverse. What sets this Gem specimen apart from most proofs seen from this year is sufficient contrast between the fields and the devices to earn it the Cameo designation. Population: 1 in 65, 0 finer (6/01).
