Description

1866 With Rays, PR65
First-Year Type

1866 5C Rays PR65 PCGS. While laminations, spotting, granularity, and other imperfections tend to be the rule for this introductory proof issue, the surfaces fail to show any distracting irregularities. The fields are smooth and moderately reflective, and the devices are razor-sharp. This is most notable on the leaves, stars, and rays. Iridescent orange patina appears to blanket the obverse when held at the proper angle.(Registry values: N2998)
