    Description

Lightly Toned PR66 Cameo 1866 Nickel

1866 5C Rays PR66 Cameo PCGS. A high-end proof example of the issue that marked the "beginning of the end" for the silver half dime. Periwinkle-blue and gold-green shadings enrich each side, the former hue more prominent on the obverse and the latter the reverse. Light but distinct frost is key to the cameo effect, contrasting with fields luminous under the patina. Population: 25 in 66 Cameo, 3 finer (12/12).
