1866 Rays Shield Nickel, PR66
Bold Proof Type Coin
1866 5C Rays PR66 PCGS. This is the debut proof issue in the
Shield nickel series, a suitable acquisition for type purposes. The
current coin is a conditionally scarce Premium Gem. The design
elements are fully impressed, most notably on the reverse stars
which show sharp recutting. A hint of cameo contrast is present
beneath champagne toning, although the effect is not impressively
