Description

1866 Rays PR 65 PCGS. It is estimated that approximately 125 to 200 proofs were struck and many of those have survived as lower grade examples. The diagnostic centering dot, characteristic of all proof 1866 nickels, is visible on the reverse. This coin is exceptional and shows only a bit of planchet granularity in the center of the reverse. A sparkling, brilliant specimen of this important first year nickel.
