Cameo Proof Gem, 1867 No Rays Shield Nickel
1867 5C No Rays PR65 Cameo PCGS. Although more common than its counterpart, the so-called "Rays" variety, the proof 1867 No Rays Nickel is a conditionally challenging issue that is seldom seen with any degree of Cameo contrast. This is one of the finest coins extant, the surfaces displaying a lightly patinated, olive-gray sheen. The well struck and richly frosted devices contrast attractively against the watery, reflective fields. There are a few scattered, barely-visible contact marks, and a very faint die crack (as struck) lies over the obverse shield. NGC and PCGS combined have certified just ten coins in the PR65 Cameo grade. Population: 7 in 65 Cameo, 1 finer (9/03). (#83821)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22PF, PCGS# 83821, GSID# 2894)
