Description

1867 Shield Nickel, PR65+ Deep Cameo
No Rays Design, Only Two Finer at PCGS

1867 5C No Rays PR65+ Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. The design of the Shield nickel was modified in early 1867 to eliminate some striking problems experienced with the design the year before. Treasury Secretary Hugh McCulloch ordered the Rays removed from the reverse on January 21, 1867, and the No Rays design was produced for the rest of the year. The proof mintage of the No Rays type is estimated at about 600 pieces.

This high-end Gem exhibits stunning cameo contrast between the deeply mirrored fields and the sharply detailed frosty design elements. The brilliant surfaces show no mentionable flaws and eye appeal is extraordinary. Population: 2 in 65 (1 in 65+) Deep Cameo, 2 finer (4/14).(Registry values: P4)
