Description
Exceptional Cameo Proof 1867 No Rays Nickel
1867 No Rays PR 65 PCGS. Second year of issue and first year of the modified design that shows no rays on the reverse. Striking difficulties during the initial year of production forced Mint personnel to reconsider the layout of the design, and as a result the rays were removed from the reverse to facilitate striking quality. The fields on this piece show Illimitible depth of mirrored reflectivity and the devices are well frosted, the combination producing a cameoed gem of considerable appeal. By the way, this is a consistent theme that runs through most of the business strike and proof nickels in this sale. The consignor obviously had an eye for quality, and we highly recommend personal inspection of these special coins. Lightly toned over each side.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22PF, PCGS# 3821, GSID# 2893)
