Description

1870 Shield Nickel, PR66+ Cameo
Outstanding Technical and Aesthetic Appeal

1870 5C PR66+ Cameo PCGS. Cameo representatives form a minority of the surviving 1870 proof Shield nickel population, and the present coin is decidedly among the finer-known examples. Field-motif contrast is bold on this piece, and the design elements are equally sharp. The fields show numerous die striations, as made, amid the deep mirroring. A blush of blended rainbow colors along the right obverse border is the only suggestion of toning on this high-end Premium Gem proof. Population: 20 in 66 (3 in 66+) Cameo, 1 finer (1/15).(Registry values: N1793)
