1871 5C PR65 PCGS. A lovely Gem proof from the earlier years of the Shield nickel design, one of 960 specimens struck for the year. Hints of gold and blue toning enhance the luminous nickel-gray surfaces. A minor planchet flaw appears below the U of UNITED on the reverse. PCGS has graded 23 finer specimens (9/07).(Registry values: N1793)
