Description
1871 Nickel, PR66 Deep Cameo
Essentially Unimprovable
1871 5C PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. The 1871 regular-issue
Shield nickel claims one of the smallest mintages in the series
after the 1879 to 1881 key dates. Proofs (960 pieces reportedly
struck) frequently serve as high-grade alternatives to the
conditionally rare circulation strikes, but Deep Cameo Premium Gem
proofs are even rarer than the top-graded business-strike coins. A
thick layer of frost covers the devices, generating amazing
white-on-black contrast against the glassy and nearly unmarked
fields. Bold eye appeal. Population: 2 in 66 (1 in 66+) Deep Cameo,
0 finer (3/15).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 276M, PCGS# 93825, Greysheet# 2909)
