Description

1872 Shield Nickel, PR67 Cameo
Deeply Reflective Fields

1872 5C PR67 Cameo NGC. Very slight granularity of the surfaces is evident when the coin is closely examined, a trait that is usually much more pronounced on proofs of this date. The mintage of 950 proofs explains much of the availability of the 1872 in lower grades, but in PR67 and as a Cameo it is distinctly unavailable. A total of six pieces have been certified as such combining both of the major services, and none are finer (3/11). The surfaces are exceptionally bright and highly reflective with sharply contrasting frosted devices. As one would expect from a coin in this grade, there are no mentionable defects.
