Description

1873 Cameo PR67 Shield Nickel
Nicely Reflective, Subtle Iridescence

1873 5C Closed 3 PR67 Cameo NGC. This high-grade example was struck on a well-produced planchet that shows very little granularity. The mintage for the 1873 proof nickel is uncertain, but estimated widely between 1,100 and 1,650 pieces. All are of the Closed 3 variant. The deeply mirrored fields contrast nicely against the softly frosted devices, and each side shows just the slightest bit of iridescence over the otherwise brilliant finish. Census: 4 in 67 Cameo, 0 finer (3/11).
