production of 700+ Shield nickel proofs in 1874. The mintage is
unremarkable when taken in the context of the series, and it fails
to allude to the rarity of comparable Superb Gems. There are only
five PR67 submissions at NGC and 10 at PCGS, and neither service
reports a single grading event finer (12/15). This superlative
