Description

Subtly Toned 1874 Shield Nickel, PR67
Tied for Finest Known

1874 5C PR67 PCGS. CAC. The mintage is estimated but undocumented at 700+ pieces, according to the 2011 Guide Book. The present marvelous coin offers yellow- and lilac-tinged surfaces that reveal scant evidence of contact. Considerable die-polishing lines are in evidence on the upper obverse, which of course must not be confused with hairlines. Certified in a green-label holder, this Superb Gem is among the finest of the issue at either service, and one of only seven pieces so graded at PCGS; there are none finer (2/11).(Registry values: N2998)
