1875 Shield Nickel, PR68 Cameo
The Finest Known
1875 5C PR68 Cameo NGC. The mintage for proofs is not known
exactly, but estimated between 1,000 and 1,250 pieces. The finish
on proofs of this year is variable, some are shallowly mirrored,
some deeply so. This is one of the latter. The fields show
exceptionally deep mirroring with starkly contrasting frosted
devices. Very subtle iridescence can be seen when closely examined.
The surfaces are essentially perfect. Census: 1 in 68 Cameo, 0
