Description

1876 Nickel, PR67 Cameo
Tied for Finest Cameo at PCGS

1876 5C PR67 Cameo PCGS. CAC. Though its successors, the proof-only 1877 and 1878 issues, are more famous, the 1876 proof Shield nickel is elusive in its own way, and certainly far less accessible than its reported mintage of 1,150+ pieces would suggest. This Superb Gem is at the top of the Cameo listings in the PCGS Population Report, a position it shares with just five other submissions (3/14). Gold and blue overtones, stronger on the reverse, visit profoundly reflective fields and lightly frosted devices as well. A smooth and captivating specimen that offers generous eye appeal.
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2011), lot 3215, which realized $13,800.
