1877 Shield Nickel, PR65 Cameo
Proof-Only Key Date

1877 5C JD-1, R.2, PR65 Cameo NGC. In 1877 the Treasury postponed circulation strikes until the economy stabilized and smaller denominations returned to relevance. Much of the 900 proofs struck for collectors are available through PR65, but Cameo pieces finer than PR66 are conditional rarities. This Gem Cameo proof is fully brilliant and boldly struck on luminous devices that deliver stark cameo contrast with the mirror-like fields. A few tiny fly specks define the grade, but do not detract from the excellent eye appeal.
