Description
1877 Shield Nickel, PR64
Important Key Issue
1877 5C PR64 PCGS. Ex: Teich Family Collection. A touch of
champagne-gold toning resides on the mirrored surfaces of this
scarce, proof-only date. The devices are sharply struck and have
some mint frost (but not enough for a Cameo designation). The
surfaces show no significant marks other than a few grade-limiting
hairlines, as often found on proofs of this era.The 1877 proof nickel -- along with its successor, the 1878 proof-only issue -- form a one-two punch of scarce dates eagerly sought by collectors of the series.
