Description
1877 Nickel, Slate-Gray PR64
Proof-Only Shield Nickel Issue
1877 5C PR64 PCGS. No circulation coinage of Shield nickels
was performed in 1877, although the Philadelphia Mint did strike
900 proofs. This Choice example is razor-sharp and free of
bothersome contact marks. Both sides have dusky slate-gray toning
and satiny luster. Proof 1877 nickels often have satiny fields
rather than the deeply mirrored fields seen on proofs of other
dates. From The Emily A. Blake Collection. (Registry values: N1793)
