1877 Shield Nickel, PR65+
Key Proof-Only Date
1877 5C PR65+ PCGS. A mere 510 pieces were struck of the
1877 Shield nickel, all proofs. Curiously, many examples, such as
this one, are shallowly mirrored in the fields; odd for an issue
with such a low production run. Still, the fields do show proof
flash when angled beneath a light. The surfaces are remarkably
well-preserved and each side displays light gray and lilac-rose
toning over each side, considerably brighter in the centers and
