Impressive PR66 Cameo 1877 Shield Nickel
Key to the Series
1877 5C PR66 Cameo PCGS. CAC. The proof-only 1877 has long
enjoyed a place of honor in the Shield nickel series. Its original
mintage is the lowest in the entire series, and many examples were
carelessly produced with dull surfaces and/or distracting planchet
flaws. This is a fully struck and lightly toned Gem that is
seemingly pristine aside from a few trivial contact marks near the
reverse center. The fields are deeply mirrored and warm golden
overtones dominate the outward appearance of both sides. One should
not, however, overlook the powerfully impressed, frosty textured
